Conquest Tactics takes place in Yen Sen, a world similar to ours but rich in magic and history. The story begins in The Fire Continent set, and revolves around the battle between Humans, Kaborha and the Malice.
Until recently, almost all Humans in Yen Sen were slaves to the Kaborha, an ironic twist on ancient history in which Humans had dominated the world and held sway over the other peoples of the world. Originally they had been the only sentient race capable of using magic, and had used it as leverage against any who opposed them. The Keeper created seven dragons to put the Humans' power in check, and the dragons eventually drove the Humans to seal up magic on their own. They were quickly ousted from power and enslaved by their former servants, serving in humiliation for centuries. Now, a young king has begun unlocking magic, freeing humans and leading the forces of the Fire Continent against the threat of the Malice.
Kaborha are concerned with only one thing in life: Honor in battle. They find nothing more important than their combat skills, and hold the Ma'Cho tournament every three years to establish who is the fiercest warrior among them. Their station in life is determined by their ranking in the Ma'Cho, and are all considered to have been dishonored by not winning the previous tournament. The winner of the Ma'Cho, the Honorable, is considered the ultimate judge in the society, and the runner up, the Least Dishonored, is tasked with running the affairs of the Kaborhan nation. Despite the danger it presents to their young and their nation, the Kaborha look forward to war, as it gives each of them a chance to regain their honor. When the Malice first appeared, the entire Kaborhan nation charged into war, and the losses were catastrophic. After the first battle a large faction of Kaborha defied the traditions of the culture and took a more practical approach to the war. They were branded the Heretics and banished from the Coliseum, home of the Kaborha.
The Malice is a mysterious horde of hateful, bloodthirsty creatures that is not native to Yen Sen, or any world for that matter. No one knows where The Malice came from, but it is constantly shifting through realities, appearing seemingly at random and leaving behind a transdimensional trail of corpses and destruction. It is unknown whether the creatures that make up The Malice were once good and twisted into evil, or were simply created out of loathing and anger. Their motives and intentions remain a mystery, but understanding of The Malice usually falls below destruction of The Malice on most people's priority lists. Entire worlds have been destroyed by the arrival of The Malice, and few worlds leave unscathed from an encounter with the vicious horde. Now The Malice has appeared in Yen Sen and is testing the might and cohesion of its diverse peoples.
